The design of this device came with many modifications as compared to its predecessors.
Oculus Quest has two diamond pentile OLED display. It has a powerful graphics chip with 6 degrees of freedom and a battery life of around 2-3 hours. The display resolution is 1440×1600 per eye to give users a real-time experience. It has a RAM of 4 Gig and is completely wire-free, PC Free with built-in sensors. The price of Oculus Quest is $400 along with its content.
Recently, Facebook has announced the new version of Oculus Quest and this version has many changes. For instance, the first version was heavy and many people reported that it felt uncomfortable while wearing. But this is not the case with the new models being built as the new models are said to be 10-15% smaller in size and weighing around 1 pound whereas the present-day Oculus Quest is said to be having a weight of around 1.25 pounds.
Facebook is also testing the removal of fabric from both sides of the new model and replacing it with plastic instead. This innovation will also help in the product being lighter in weight and more comfortable to wear. App and software development is also in progress for this new model.
The new VR HMD is said to have a refresh rate of 90 Hz compared to 60 Hz and 72 Hz of the present version. Also, reports suggest that the latest version will have a switch to adjust the inter-pupillary distance according to the wish of the user wearing the HMD. By using the switch, the user can avoid having headaches. Work on a new and redesigned controller is also under progress. This new controller is said to be compatible with the present version of the Quest too. The new HMD will also have four external cameras.
This new version of Quest was all ready to be launched by the end of this year, but the outbreak of CoViD-19 has slowed the progress and if the situation does not get better, the launch could be delayed further.
